This year I want to sell my water colors and mixed media collages in my Etsy shop “Lacascade”. They’re mostly inspired by my francophilia, (excessive love of things french), and are created from papers that I’ve collected in France. Since this is the year of the rabbit, I’ll be starting with a series of rabbit images, (so what if it’s a Chinese thing, rabbits work for me).
I had found many early 20th century copies of Le Chasseur Francais, (The French Hunter) in french flea markets and had let them mellow in my files for a few years before I found a use for them. One of the problems I have in using french text in collages is that I get sidetracked trying to read it. I was moved by an article written just after WW ll in Le Chasseur Francais about a government agency set up just after WW II to count the remaining game in the forests around Paris. The article mentioned how hard wars are on rabbits, (les lapins), deer and wild boar. I’m sure that rabbits were responsible for quite a few rural families surviving the many wars that have taken place on french soil. So here’s my tribute to Le Lapin. I have 7 more waiting in the wings.
